Svikriti was initially launched as the award winners’ show in the month of August annually, it has grown in the scheme since then, to enable and support young artists in the earlier stages of their careers. The Initiative facilitates them to work without reserve, encouraging them to ideate, experiment and explore methodologies, thus helping them to develop their practices over a period of next six months. Abhishek Chakroborty, Pritam Sarkar, Souvik Roy and Sriparna Dutta have been some of our participants and award winners from our previous years’ annual exhibitions.

Even as their practices are diverse, each of their works are culturally rooted in their individual/ familial histories set in the conflicting narratives of the past. And from which they have emerged with many stories, accumulated through generations, carried down or passed on until they become so fragmented or dense with meaning that one has to interpret and reinterpret to make sense of that inheritance. Together they represent the manifold realities of the times we live in. And embracing these diversities of thoughts and practice is what makes them so unique in nature.
