Gallery
The Birla Academy has 6 galleries, featuring artists and exhibitions throughout the year. Two of these floors house part of the Academy’s permanent reserve collections and function as museums.
The Ancient Sculpture Museum on the ground floor has a rich collection of objects on display dating between the 2nd century BC to the 18th century AD. The Miniatures Museum on the 3rd floor showcases some of the manuscripts, miniatures and other artifacts from our collections. The gallery on the 5th floor is used as the Contemporary Museum with a temporary display of the works from the Academy's collection of Contemporary artists.
The 1st floor gallery also known as the Sarala Birla Gallery holds shows that Birla Academy organises through the year. The museum on the ground floor and the Sarala Birla Gallery on the 1st floor have the highest elevation out of all other floors. The Sarala Birla Gallery opens out to the Terrace at the back and has hosted several prominent exhibitions, talks, workshops and performances in the past.
There are 2 galleries on the 2nd and 4th floors which are rented out to those interested in exhibiting at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture. The 2nd floor gallery also known as Basant Kumar Birla gallery is the bigger of the two galleries of around 3300 sq. ft. area. The 4th floor gallery is smaller of the two with an area of 1700 sq. ft. The other half of the gallery is used as the Collectors’ Corner.
Library
Our library houses a good collection of over 5500 books and many more journals, catalogues and magazines on Arts and other genres like History, Museum studies, Archeology, Films, Architecture, Conservation, Decorative arts etc. The library is open to all through prior appointments. Additionally, we also organise library and interactive sessions held by Academicians from time to time.
The collection continues to grow from the many acquisitions we make annually and also generous donations we have received from our patrons over the years.
Auditorium
The auditorium at Birla Academy is air-conditioned and spacious with a seating capacity of 200 people. Over the years we have hosted book launches, lectures, performances and demonstrations and film screenings.
Collectors Corner
The Collectors' Corner situated on the 4th floor showcases a wide variety of works by artists and artisans to choose from.
