Svikriti 2023

All that is new often fills us with curiosity, making us sit up and take note, excited at the rare prospect of something to look forward to. It is when we shed our fears of the unknown can the beauty of it be truly seen and felt. The new often lacks the support and trust that can act as a stimulant to develop and discover its true potential.

The role of BAAC through the years has been to nurture such young practitioners, to offer them support in ways and times when it is extremely essential in their early careers. In the process, we have grown in our role too, evolving in times past that have been most challenging and trying, but unwavering in our efforts nonetheless. 

Every year during the annual exhibition BAAC showcases more than 100 artists. Out of them, a select group of exceptional and promising are chosen by an eminent jury as the award winners in various categories. Our long term engagement only truly begins after the exhibition is over, grooming these awardees for the Svikriti show in August.

Our focus as always, during this time, has been to offer them guidance and direction wherever needed through engagements and conversations with each of the awardees. In this effort we are joined by a team of senior artists who mentor them through dialogue and their invaluable observations - we offer our immense gratitude to you all.   

What we are very pleased to present here today, is an extension of these many conversations with Anirban Basu, Debi Prasad Bhuniya, Debojit Roy, Nutan Kishor Nishad, Souvik Roy, Supriyo Karmakar and Umesh Jana. 

Somewhere in the progression towards this show, we have built strong connections rooted in each of their practices, forming a deeper relationship and understanding of their works, thoughts and methods.
